The year in one view

From the February baseline to the December snapshot, registered vacation rental permits increased from 2,684 to 2,813, a gain of 129. Waitlisted permit requests rose from 42 to 116, an increase of 74.

Growth in the permit waitlist was concentrated. Movie Colony East added 19 requests, Gene Autry added 16, and Racquet Club Estates added 9 over the comparable period. Density did not always move with the waitlist: Movie Colony East’s published density fell 1.48 percentage points while its waitlist grew.

How to read the comparison

The annual chart follows the 11 comparable snapshots from February through December. The neighborhood comparison table shows the change in published density from February to December, measured in percentage points; additional reporting areas are labeled separately. January remains outside the comparable series because the City’s February reporting revision would blur a simple month-to-month interpretation.

Some availability figures are unavailable. A snapshot that omits co-owned housing units cannot support the availability calculation. Its published density, registered permits, and reported waitlists remain visible; missing fields are not treated as zero.

Registered permits and waitlisted permit requests through 2023

Only available City snapshots are shown, equally spaced. Lines connect consecutive months only; missing months are omitted, not estimated.

Registered permits Waitlisted permit requests

January is excluded from the comparable annual series because the February release introduced an additional reporting area and materially revised several residential-unit totals. The chart begins with February and does not interpolate January.

Annual methodology

A comparison of preserved City snapshots

The annual report compares published monthly snapshots rather than reconstructing missing values. Density changes are shown in percentage points. Available is estimated as floor(total residential units × 20%) − registered permits − co-owned units − pending applications.

Changes in the City’s neighborhood definitions, unit totals, or reporting method can affect comparisons. Any known break is called out beside the chart and should be considered before drawing conclusions.
